Commercial Structure Fire ~ VDOT

On Monday, December 19, 2011 at approximately 2116 hours, Stations 4 (Atlantic), 1 (New Church), 6 (Bloxom), 3 (Chincoteague), 7 (Parksley), and 20 (Oak Hall) were alerted for a commercial structure fire at 30487 Temperanceville Road. The 911 Center advised responding units that several callers reported fire was visible from the roof of one of the structures on the property. Engine 4-6 arrived to find the Highway Department salt barn well involved with the roof collapsing. Chief 4 (D. Grant) established command and placed two hoselines in service to protect the nearby buildings. Additional lines were pulled from E 4-5 & R-1 on the rear (C side) of the structure. The fire was confined to the building of origin. Additional tankers were requested from Station 5 (Saxis) and Worcester 100 (Pocomoke City, MD). Heavy equipment provided by VDOT was used during overhaul. Units remained on scene for about 3 hours.
